About me and this blog

Hello and welcome to gamers and non-gamers alike! If you are an avid fan of video games, a casual player, someone who's never even picked up a game controller, or even a video game skeptic, this blog is written to you (so basically it's for everyone).

To the gamer:

You'll be getting insights, analyses, commentaries, and much more on a hobby we have in common. Maybe you'll learn a trick or two in a game we both play. Maybe you'll learn about other games you may have not tried. Above all, I hope that you pick up some tips from learning how I manage my video game lifestyle as an adult with a growing family and career.

To the non-gamer:

Maybe your spouse is an avid gamer and you are trying to understand your loved one's passions. Maybe you have children that play video games and you need advice from another parent that is very familiar with that world about how to keep your children safe and responsible with this hobby. Or maybe you are in the process of seeking out new hobbies. Whatever the case, this blog is for you too.

To everyone:

My name is Brian. I'm an adult male in my 20's, I've been married for a few years, and I have a toddler boy and an infant boy. I'm religious (mormon), I'm a graduate student in engineering, and despite how busy I am with school, church, and my family, I still find time to play video games!

As I've grown in adulthood and husband/father-hood, I've had to learn temperance with my hobby. As a kid and teenager, adult mentors I had would tell me that video games was something they had to give up as they grew up, and that scared me! I would tell them now that I have figured out how to maintain this hobby and still be a responsible person.

Above any commentary about video games themselves, my goal here is to discuss a range of issues that are significant to a gaming lifestyle and that are important to me in general, such as:

- responsibility for youth, adults, and parents
- time management
- fatherhood and manhood
- gender equality, gender roles, gender stereotyping
- protecting ourselves and our family from inappropriate content
- living a balanced life
- religion*

*my religion is part of who I am, but it is not the focus of this blog. However, please understand that I will make references to my belief system and its culture.
